Service Project: Central Texas Food Bank – 12 Volunteers Needed

Rotary - ACRC - Service Project - Central Texas Food Bank- Website - Banner

May 5 @ 6:00 pm 8:30 pm

The call to fight hunger is one our Rotary district is committed to and is asking each club to do its part in the support of local food banks and food drives. In Texas, 13% of Texas households (nearly 4 million people) face food insecurity in some way or another every day. Texas is one of just 9 states with higher food insecurity than the national average.

What are we doing

Join us for an evening of nourishing our neighbors by volunteering at the Central Texas Food Bank. As a warehouse volunteer, you’ll help us inspect, clean, sort, box, and prepare donated food and non-food items to distribute to the food bank’s partner agencies, distribution programs, and recipients.

To secure this project, we committed to 12 volunteers so we encourage ALL to sign up. You do NOT have to be an ACRC member to attend.

Each participant is required to create an account and sign up into our ACRC group reservation before arriving for the volunteer shift, using our Austin Cosmopolitan unique link.

Important Details — READ ALL

Dress Code: Open-toe shoes (sandals, flip-flops, etc.) and sleeveless shirts (i.e. tank tops and spaghetti straps) are NOT permitted for the Food Bank’s volunteer shifts for safety reasons. Depending on your project, we may require you to wear food service gloves and/ or hair/beard nets. The Food Bank will provide these items if they are needed.

Timing: We ask all volunteers to arrive 5-10 minutes before the listed start time and stay for the duration of the scheduled shift. Volunteers receive nametag, crucial safety and orientation information at the start of the shift. For safety reasons, volunteers who arrive more than 30 minutes late will not be allowed to join their group for the shift.

COVID-19: Central Texas Fod Bank is now a mask optional facility for those who are fully vaccinated. They ask those who aren’t fully vaccinated to wear a mask while on-site.

Minimum age: The minimum age to participate is 8 years old. Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is from their same household and is age 21+ in order to serve.  Both the minor and adult must create an account and register for their own volunteer spot.

Parking: Please park in our visitor lot off of Metropolis Drive. Enter the building at the volunteer entrance to the left of the giant carrot and proceed into the volunteer lobby.
