Our guest speaker recently decided to make a sharp turn career-wise, and accepted a job that would allow her to still have a fulfilling role but pour her writing energies into her own, original work.

Melanie’s favorite books are Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, Blood and Money by Tommy Thompson, and Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, but loves biographies and non-fiction, too.

She writes essays reminiscent of David Sedaris (a long admired writer) about her family, and growing up in Austin. Her goal is to share historical and current Austin stories to support the oral and written history of the Violet Crown City.
