Regular Meeting – Selina Serna – Project Schoolhouse service project
October 10 @ 6:00 am - 7:00 pm
Please join us to hear about and prepare for a volunteer opportunity at Project Schoolhouse.
PROJECT SCHOOLHOUSE IS AN INTERNATIONAL NON PROFIT THAT FOCUSES ON EDUCATION, CLEAN WATER, AND SANITATION IN RURAL NICARAGUAN COMMUNITIES.
We work with communities that have identified both the problems they want to solve and the solutions to fix them. Our purpose is to facilitate projects that have real grassroots support and local buy-in that result in sustainable progress. By tackling education, water, and sanitation issues simultaneously we help communities achieve more complete solutions to complex problems.
Selena Serna will lead us through what we will be doing to help them at their yearly fundraiser, ‘Cien Amigos’ on November 12.
Selina brings a graceful yet firm, quiet accountability to Project Schoolhouse. Serving on the board since 2013 when a trip to Nicaragua inspired her to become involved, she has been increasingly engaged until taking over the Executive Director role in 2019. Formerly a long-time team member of Whole Foods Market, Selina knows the importance of balancing social good with successful business models. Selina has served as Financial Controller for Whole Foods’s UK expansion, Assistant Controller for US Southwest Region and, most recently, Sr. Coordinator for Growth and Business Development until leaving in 2019 to focus full time on Project Schoolhouse. Selina is a graduate of Rice University with a degree in Economics.
